According to some scholars who studied the origin of the Philippine settlers, human settlement happened in the time when the ice in the world started to melt.

Two scholars and historians in the persons of Henry Otley Beyer and Jaime C. de Veyra have studied the origin of the people in the Philippine Archipelago.

According to them, there were groups of people who migrated in the Philippines. These groups of people are came from the Southeast Asia; and all of these people posses their own culture.

The first group had travelled to the Philippines using the land bridges that formerly connect the Philippine Archipelago to the mainland Asia. These group of people use to settle in the Philippine Forest as well as in the caves.

The second group of people came after; they comprise of the Pygmy. Belong to this group are the Negrito, Proto Malay and Australoid Sakai. They also travelled by walking through the land bridges from Borneo until they came to Palawan, Mindoro and Mindanao. These groups of people have said to be good in hunting animals in the forest and in fishing in the rivers and seas.

The third group of people came after; they are the Indonesians. They arrived in the Philippines after the Ice Age. Unlike the first and the second group who migrated in the archipelago, the Indonesians travelled through their boats instead of walking through the land bridges. This was because there are no more land bridges on that time as these were already covered with sea water.

This third grouped of people had more advanced technology if compared to the first and the second grouped. It may be because of the time of their arrival wherein more advance methods had been developed.

This people use to have their own houses rather than living in the caves. They used to have their special tools made from stone or metals. Accordingly, some indigenous people in the Philippines came from this group. These indigenous peoples are the Ifugao, Bontoc, Gaddang, Manobos, T’boli and other ethnic groups.

The last who came to the Philippine archipelago are the Malay. Accordingly, the Malay came from the Java, Sumatra, Borneo and Malaysia. Like the third group, they also travelled by sea using their boats. This grouped have their advanced method of living as compared to the first, second and the third group.

Today, the colonization and intermarriages between locals and foreigners add spice on this race.
